<note>In the modern era, movies are not only entertainment, but also a medium that reflects and shapes social values, including the construction of gender roles. The Netflix series Gadis Kretek (2023) showcases women's struggle against patriarchal myths rooted in Indonesian culture. The problem formulations in this research are: (1) How are the myths of women represented in the Gadis Kretek series through signs and symbols that illustrate the social construction of women? and (2) How are these myths deconstructed based on the depiction of their construction? The purpose of this research is to analyze the myths about women and their deconstruction process in the Gadis Kretek series using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with data sources in the form of scenes in the Gadis Kretek series that contain denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings. The results showed that there are five myths constructed in this series, namely: (1) the standard of femininity of women, (2) women as domestic creatures, (3) the limitations of women in the world of work, (4) the role of women in 3M (masak, macak, manak), (5) women as the guardians of family harmony, (6) the myth of women as destroyers of sacredness, and (7) the myth of women as objects of male fantasy. The seven myths are successfully deconstructed through the main character Dasiyah (Jeng Yah) who refuses to submit to patriarchal values and shows women's agency in the public sphere. The deconstruction reveals that these myths are not natural truths, but are the result of patriarchal social constructions that dictate how women should behave and appear. This finding affirms that gendered expectations in society are ideologically shaped and can be challenged through critical representation in media.
Key words : Gadis Kretek, myth, deconstruction</note>
