<note>This research aims to analyze the types of grammatical errors made by eighth-semester students of the English Study Program in translating recount texts from Indonesian into English and to identify the possible causes of those errors. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The instruments used were a recount text and a closed-ended questionnaire. The subjects were 34 eighth-semester students from Class A at Nusa Cendana University. The data were analyzed using the Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982) and the causes of errors were categorized based on Norrish’s (1983) theory. The findings revealed a total of 112 grammatical errors categorized as omission (26 errors), addition (24 errors), misformation (40 errors), and misordering (22 errors). The identified causes of errors included carelessness (86 instances), first language interference (30), and literal translation (28). These findings suggest that even advanced-level students still frequently commit grammatical errors, particularly in tenses and sentence structure. Therefore, this research provides valuable insights for improving translation instruction and curriculum design in English language programs.
