<note>This thesis is entitled:” AN ANALYSIS OF A TEACHER’S STRATEGIES IN TEACHING READING TO THE GRADE EIGHT STUDENTS OF SMP ANGKASA KUPANG ”. The problems of this study are (1)  Find out the English teacher’s strategies in teaching reading at grade eight students of SMP Angkasa Kupang, (2) To find out the students’ responses toward their English teacher’s strategies in teaching reading at grade eight of SMP Angkasa Kupang. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research were; eight-students and teacher from SMP Angkasa.
This study aims to analyze the teacher’s strategies in teaching reading and also to see how students respond to the strategies used by the teacher when teaching reading, in eight grade at SMP Angkasa Kupang.This research approach is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is an English teacher who teaches a class, as well as eighth-grade students. Data was collected from observations, interviews, and documentation. In this study, researchers found that in teaching reading, teacher used that reciprocal teaching, QAR, and scaffolding strategies. The students’ response to the strategy was positive. They were enthusiastic, excited and active in participating in learning English reading.
