<note>This thesis is titled “The Correlation Between Reading Habit and 
Writing Ability of The Second Semester Students in English Department of 
Nusa Cendana University in The Academic Year 2023/2024.” The subject of 
this study was the second semester students of Nusa Cendana University. This 
research addressed two research questions: 1.What is the level of English reading 
habit in the second semester students at the English Department Nusa Cendana 
University?And is there any correlation between students’ reading habits and their 
writing ability? This study contained reading habit and writing ability. The aims 
of research were, (1)to investigate the English reading habits of the second 
semester students of the English Department of Nusa Cendana University. (2) to 
find out whether there is any correlation between students' reading habit and their 
writing ability. The research design used was quantitative method. The subject of 
this research was class C second semester students of English study program. The 
data of this research were collected by using questionnaire and test. In this study, 
the researcher collected the data from the questionnaires that shared to second 
semester students through google form. The questionnaires to find out the 
students’ reading habit. After got the result of questionnaires, the researcher took 
students’ writing scores from Essay Writing course. The results of the 
questionnaires and tests were analyzed and scored. The average reading habit 
score of second semester students’ in the English Department of Nusa Cendana 
University ranged from 54-85 which concluded as a high category of students’ 
reading habit. It can be concluded that 8 students have very high reading habits, 
20 students have high reading habit, 10 students have middle reading habit, and 
none has low reading habit and very low reading habit. Most of the students 
confirmed that reading English is purposed to improve their writing skill as they 
think that reading English is supported their intensions. There result of correlation 
coefficient which shows that the correlation between students’ reading habit and 
writing ability is 0.898 (high correlation). Students who have a high English 
reading habit score get a high English writing score. We can say that students who 
have high English reading habit scores tend to have better understanding of 
language structures, vocabulary, writing styles.
