<note>This study is entitled "An Error Analysis on the Use of Simple Present Tense in Descriptive Text by Seventh-Grade Students of SMP Negeri 20 Kupang". This study aims to identify the types of errors made by seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Kupang in using the simple present tense in descriptive text and to determine the factors that cause these errors. The error analysis method is used to collect data from written tests and interviews. The results show that students make four types of errors: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The factors that cause these errors are carelessness, first language interference, and translation errors. This study suggests that students need to improve their ability to use the simple present tense through more practice and understanding the correct sentence structure. Additionally, this study also emphasizes the importance of the teacher's role in helping students understand the concept of simple present tense and providing constructive feedback to improve students' abilities. Thus, this study is expected to contribute to the development of more effective English language teaching and improve students' ability to use the simple present tense.
