This study was carried out under the title 'An Analysis of the Ability to Write Descriptive Texts of Grade 8A Students of UPTD SMPN 11 Kupang in the School Year 2025/2026 .' The subjects of this study were the eighth-grade students of UPTD SMPN 11 Kupang, which consisted of 33 students. The problems of this research are “What is the extent of the student's ability in writing descriptive text and what are the problems encountered by the eighth-grade A students of UPTD SMPN 11 Kupang in writing the descriptive text? The aims are to know the student's ability and to know the student's problems in writing a descriptive text. The method used in this study was the Qualitative method. The instrument the writer used to collect the data was a writing test. The result of the study showed that students were able to write descriptive text. Most students achieved good scores at the end. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion- Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of English lessons at the school is 70(seventy) out of 100. The mean score was 67,63. Their problem are related to grammar, content, vocabulary organization and mechanics. In conclusion, the students’ writing ability was improved as indicated by the mean score gained.
