<note>This study aims to describe the types of grammatical and lexical cohesives. The researcher uses the text of Joko Widodo's and Donald Trump's political speeches as a source of data in this study. The qualitative descriptive method was applied in this research. In analyzing the data, the researcher found four types of grammatical cohesives and six types of lexical cohesives. Types of grammatical cohesive, namely, (1) reference, are grammatical cohesive in the form of a particular language unit that refers (referring to) another language unit, which awaits or follows it. (2) Substitution is a form of discourse to start having certain language elements in words as a pair of terms that still have almost the same meaning. There are three types of substitution discourse: noun substitution, verb substitution, and adjective substitution. (3) Ellipsis is the cream of removing words or parts of sentences. (4) Conjunction is a type of grammatical cohesion marker connected to connect not one to another in discourse. Conjunctions in discourse consist of coordinating conjunctions, subordinate conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, and conjunctions between sentences. The types of lexical cohesive are, (1) Repetition is a lingual unit in the sound of syllables, words, and parts of sentences that are considered essential for an appropriate context. There are eight types of repetition according to the location of the lexical unit, which is repeated in one line, clause, or sentence, namely: repetition of epizeuxis, tautotes, anaphora, epistrophe, simploce, mesodiplosis, epanalepsis, and anadiplosis. (2) Synonym lexical cohesion is the equivalent of the relationship of meaning in the use of linguistic units in the form of syllables, words, or phrases that are used together in a sentence. (3) antonyms are relationships between meanings whose logic is very different or contradictory. Antonyms are also called oppositions of meaning. (4) hyponym is a relationship between words that is top-down or in the sense that it contains several other components because there is an upper class that includes several smaller parts and some lower parts. The classes that belong to the upper class, the said class located as a class, are called the superordinate. The lower class is called a hyponym. (5) Equivalence is the equivalent relationship between a specific language and other linguistic units in a paradigm. This aspect of formal language, closely related to Cohesive, describes how propositions relate to one another and how fundamental propositions apply the illocutionary act as a reference to coherence. In terms of cohesive devices, show cohesiveness and integrity. (6) collocation as a unique association in the use of the choice of words used to use it. Meanwhile, collocation is also a marker of cohesive discourse, indicated by the similarity of word associations or the possibility of several words in the same environment in one sentence with other sentences.
