This research is purposed to know to what extent of the eighth-semester students of English department students of Nusa Cendana University are able to master English noun clauses and to identify and describe the possible causes for difficulties in the mastery of English noun clauses by the eighth-semester students of the English department of Nusa Cendana University. This study focuses on the mastery of noun clause by the eighth Semester Students of English Department of Nusa Cendana University. The total number of this study's respondents is 32 students of the eighth-semester of the English department of Nusa Cendana University. This study used qualitative method with descriptive analysis. In collecting the data, the researcher used test and interview. The test consists of 30 multiple choices. The test was given by using Google Form (online test) and distributed to all students. After the students finished, the data were collected from google form, and then the data were analyzed. The result shows that total average percentage of students’ correct answers is 37.81%. In other words, the ability of the eighth-semester students of English department in mastering English noun clause is in poor level. The possible causes for difficulties in the mastery of English noun clauses are (1) the students lack or do not have adequate knowledge on grammar functions such as subject, object, complement, and preposition, which causes confusion on the students to determine the proper form, function, or position of noun clause; (2) they also have a lack of knowledge about tenses, which causes they cannot choose the appropriate verb to get the right answer; (3) Their laziness makes they cannot learn and understand well to the materials that have been taught.
