<note>This thesis is entitled: “The use of picture media to improve vocabulary by seventh grade students of smp negeri 2 Sabu Barat in the academic year 2020/2021”. The problem of this study is: can the use of pictures media improve the vocabulary of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sabu Barat in academic year 2020/2021? The aim of this study is: to know whether the use of pictures media can improve the vocabulary of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sabu Barat in the academic year 2020/2021. The method used was experimental method. The research was conducted in SMP N 2 Sabu Barat. The research population was seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sabu Barat in the academic year 2020/2021. There were 180 students as the population. The sample of this research was 45 students or 25% of 180 students devided into two groups: experimental group and comtrol group as. The instrumen was a test. It was multiple choice test that consistsed of 30 items. The data were analyzed by computing the significance of the treatment of scores, and the significance of the treatment by using picture media. The mean of scores between the control group and the experimental group in the pre test and post test was compared to determine the defference by using the T test formula. The result shows that the use of picture media can improve vocabulary of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sabu Barat, because based on the score of t-ratio obtained was 19 and the degree of freedom was 43 which was higher than 2,01669 of the t-table at the 5% level or P > 0,05 (5%) of significance. In this case, null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. It means that the use of picture media can improve students’ vocabulary of SMPN 2 Sabu Barat in the academic year 2020/2021.
