<note>Vocabulary is one of the most important aspects of learning a language, especially in learning English. Vocabulary is the core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basis for how well learners speak, listen, read, and write. In constructing a simple sentence, a student can practice learning vocabulary and know how to use it in a sentence. This is the reason for the writer to conduct a research with the research problem that is “Is it effective to using picture cards in teaching English vocabulary through simple sentence construction at the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in academic year 2020/2021?” The research entitled: “The Effectiveness of Using Picture Cards in Teaching English Vocabulary Through Simple Sentence Construction at Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 1 Kupang in The Academic Year 2020/2021” aimed to know the whether it is effective to using picture cards in teaching vocabulary toward simple sentence construction. The writer used experimental researh design to collect the data, for the procedure of research, there are field research and library research. The instrument of this research is a test multiple choices test as model of the questions and the total number of items in the test are 20 questions. Population for this research is the students at the VII grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Kupang with the total number of students are 352, from that population, the researcher choose 36 students which is 10% of the population, the samples were divided into 2 groups as samples; a control group and an experimental group which consists of 18 students for each group. The data analysis in this research used the T test to analyze the significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group. Based on the result of data analysis, the score of the t-ratio is 4.86 with the degree of freedom was 34. The score of t-ratio is higher than 1,691from the t-table at the level of 5% level or P > 0.05 (5%) of significance. It means that the null hyphothesis was rejected and the alternative hyphotesis (H1) was accepted. The result of the data analysis shows that there is an effectiveness of using picture cards in teaching English vocabulary through simple sentence construction at Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 1 Kupang in The Academic Year 2020/2021.
