<note>This thesis is entitled: “ANALYSIS OF TEACHER - STUDENTS CLASSROOM INTERACTIONS OF SMPN 3 WEST AMARASI, KUPANG REGENCY”. The problems of this study are: 1. What are categories of teacher classroom interactions in teaching learning process of SMPN 3 West Amarasi, Kupang regency? 2.What are categories of students classroom interactions in teaching learning process of SMPN 3 West Amarasi, Kupang regency? This study aims: 1. To identify categories of teacher classroom interaction is in teaching learning proses of SMPN 3 West Amarasi, Kupang regency. 2. To identify categories of students classroom interaction is in teaching learning proses of SMPN 3 West Amarasi, Kupang regency. The method used was qualitative descriptive method. The descriptive method embraced characteristics of a case study in SMPN 3 West Amarasi, Kupang regency. In the study the researcher observed the teacher and students talks interactions which constitute the teaching and learning process in English class. The research procedures were : pre observation, classroom observation and trancribing data. The data resource of this research was primary data, that is one teacher and 26 students who interacted in classroom of SMPN 3 west Amarasi, Kupang regency. The instrument used was observation. Observation was done through sight, smeeling, hearing and touching (Arikunto 2010: 199). Data collection techniques used were observation and documentation. Analysis technique was done by applying classroom discourse analysis through coding and categorizing utterances of teacher and students into exchange categories proposed by Suherdi (2009). The result shows that classroom interactions in teaching learning process of SMPN 3 West Amarasi, Kupang regency can be categorized of two types, namely indirect influence and direct influence. Indirect influence, teacher talk interactions can be categorized into four categories, namely dealing with feelings, praising or encouraging, using ideas of students, and asking questions. In direct influence, teacher talk can be categorized into three categories, namely: giving information, giving direction and criticizing students’ behavior. Students talk interactions was categorized into four main categories, such as: students respons, specififc, students response open-ended, silence.
