The thesis is entitled: “A Study on forms and Meaning of Verbal expression in Engagement ceremony in Dawan cultural community”. The problems of this study are : (1) What are forms of verbal expression in Engagement ceremony in Dawan community? (2) What are types of meanings of forms of verbal expression in Engagement ceremony in Dawan community ? The study aims: (1)to describe the forms of verbal expression in engagement ceremony in Dawan community (2) to identify types of meanings of forms in verbal expression in engagement ceremony in Dawan community.The method used was descriptive qualitative method. The data resources were three informants who know about the engagement ceremony.The data were colleted by using some techniques, such as: observation,interview, recording, elicitation note taking.The data collected were analyzed by using: transcribing, identifying, and interpreted based on the theoritical review use in this reserach. The result shows that there are 25 forms of verbal expression in engagemen ceremony. There are five types of meanings verbal expression in engagement ceremony namely: Social Meaning.
