<note>AThe subject of the research is the fourth-semester students of the English Department, Nusa Cendana University, which counts for 143 students and is distributed in four classes. This number of students becomes the population of this study, and 30 students from class B were taken as a sample. To obtain the data required for this research, the writer has given an assignment to the research subject.  Based on the analysis of students' writing, the students’ faced some problems in writing narrative text. The first problem was the generic structure of the narrative text. Some students had problems in writing the generic structure, especially in complication and resolution. In orientation, the students write a complete orientation. They provided information about where and when the story happened and who was involved in the story. In writing complications of narrative text, some students did not write complications in the story. They did not provide the beginning of the problem, which led to the crisis (climax) of the main participant. In the resolution, the writer found that some students did not provide the crisis is resolved, either a happy or sad ending.  The writer also found that there was a strength in students writing. Some students are good in terms of organization, content, vocabulary, capitalization, and grammar. The students expressed their idea very well, so it made the reader entertained. The result of this study also showed that the students had several weaknesses such as grammar, mechanical (punctuations, capitalization, and spelling), content, and vocabulary.
