Figurative language is a way to show thoughts and feelings through special language other than literal meaning. This research analyzed figurative language used in three of Celine Dion’s songs. They are The Power of Love, Thankful and Prayer. It is expected that this research result will be useful for the students of English Study Program since this study is done based on the theory of figurative language. The benefit of this study is that the readers can enrich their knowledge in understanding of figurative language and contextual meaning of figurative language. The researcher used contextual meaning to get the mening of figurative language has been found. The method of this research was qualitative research and it was a library research since data sources are literature. The findings and the discussion is the song lyrics taken from Celine Dion’s songs. There are eight types of figurative language found in Celine Dion’s songs such as metaphor, simile, imagery, metonymy, synecdoche, repetition, hyperbole and personification. The most frequent types of figurative language is repetition. This research is expected be able to gave contribution to readers, students and future researcher who are interested in figurative language to understand and to enrich their knowledge about figurative language and the contextual meaning of Celine Dion’s song lyrics.
