<note>This thesis entitled “Error analysis in translating English compound words into Indonesian by third grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in academic year 2021/2022”. This study aimsto answer these questions: (1)What are the errors commited by third grade student of SMAN 4 Kupang in translating English compound words into Indonesian? (2) What types of compound words difficult for student to translate?.The aims of this study are to find out errors commited by third grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in translating English compound words into Indonesian and to find out types of compound words difficult for students to translate. The method usedwas descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were third grade student of SMAN 4 Kupang in academic year 2021/ 2022.The data resource was students worksheet. There were two techniques used to collect data as translating sentences and questionaires.The data were analyzed qualitatively by identifying and describing errors based on their types.The errors commited by the third grade students, among the four types of grammatical errors in translating are ommision, selection, addition and ordering……Selectionis the type of error that is the most often made by students. Omission is 9,571, addition is 2,428, selection is 19,428, and ordering is 0,371. As an evaluation material, the writer also includes correct collum and problem collum. The correct translation is 13,485 and problemis 5,228.The type of compound words are difficult for student to translate based on the total of problems for noun compound is 127 times, verb compound is 32 times and for adjective compound is 24 times. In the end, it can be concluded that noun compound were the most difficult compound words to translate when compared to the other two types. Based on the result above,it was suggested that students should improve their translating activities, especially in translating compound words according to the grammatical rules and do more exercises related to compound words.
