This study is entitled “ Picture Cards in Learning English Vocabulary by Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri Batu Putih in Academic Year 2019/2020”. The problem of this writing is formulated in this question: is the use of picture cards effective in learning English vocabulary by seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri Batu Putih in the academic year 2019/2020? This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using picture cards in teaching English to improve students’ vocabulary. In conducting this research the researcher used experimental method by taking the thirty students of SMP Negeri Batu Putih in the school year 2019/2020 as the sample. This sample was divided into two groups; the control group and the experimental group. The experimental group was treated by using picture cards but the control group was not. Before the treatment was carried out both groups were given a pre-test. After the treatment was carried out both groups were given a post-test. From the data obtained, the writer counted the score of the pre-test and post-test based on the t-test analysis. By comparing the value of = 4.23 and on the degree of freedom significance of 5%= 2.04, the writer concluded that was higher than , namely 4.23>2.04. Therefore, it can be found that treatment using picture cards in learning Englishvocabulary is effective to improve students’ vocabulary. Key Words: English, learning, picture cards, vocabulary
