This thesis is entitled : AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS WRITING TEXTS IN DESCRIBING PEOPLE BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMTK KAYAPE KUPANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020. This research aimed to know the student’s difficulties in writing descriptive text. The subjects of this research were the second years students that consist of 21 students of SMTK KAYAPE KUPANG. The technique of analyzing data was applied by using qualitative method. The qualitative data were obtained from interview and test. The results of this study illustrate that students faced difficulties in organizing and developing ideas. They were not able to develop ideas on the texts they wrote. In term of grammar, they couldn’t write descriptive text by using correct grammar.In term of vocabulary, it was difficult for students to use appropriate vocabulary. In term mechanic, there was no significant error. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested for teachers to pay attention to the teaching structure of descriptive text in the development of ideas,arrangement of ideas, use of grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
