<note>The researcher aimed to improve the students’ speaking skills in english by using story telling technicque. The researcher used story telling technique to improve the students’ speaking skills. The objectives of this research is to describe the implementation of using story telling technicque to improve grade eight studenst’ speaking skills at SMPN 1 LEMBOR SELTAN in academic year of 2021/2022 which consist of 25 students. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was conducted in two cycles. Each cycles consisted of four steps. They were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting, and it was done systematically and collaboratively. The researcher took role as an observer who observed everything that happened in the class while the teacher performed CAR for the students. The result showed that the implementation of story telling to improve the students’ speaking skill was really successful. The passing grade was 65.In the pre test of the cycle 60,08 % of the students fail the passing grade,and in post-test I, the students‟ mean score is 70,12, and in post-test II the students‟ mean score is 80,08% with 80,08 % students who passed the test.The students’ speaking strenghts are that students can telling a story that they know,the students can doing practice conversation in front of class,the students can fix their pronounciation.The students’ speaking weaknesses are lack of vocabulary,lack of ability to recite the English words that they have read,lack of grammar.Action Hypothesis is accepted,because it proves that using storytelling technique can improve students’speaking skills.Storytelling can improve students’speaking skills by regular practice speaking,read alot,interact with the community,it works because the students always doing practice.The students’speaking strenghts are the students can tell the story that they know, the students doing practice conversation.Students’speaking weaknesses are the students are grow boredom,difficuk to express ideas orally,lack of grammar, lack of reciting the word.So, from the result, the researcher concluded the use of story telling technique improved students’ speaking skills.</note>
