<note>The problems of this research were (1) To what extent are the sixth semester students in the academic year 2019/2020 able to analyze syntactic constituent structures? and (2) What are the difficulties faced by the sixth semester students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in analyzing the constituent structures?.  The  aims  were  (1)  to  finding  out  the  sixth  semester  students’  ability  in  analyzing  the
constituent structures and (2) to finding out the difficulties faced by the sixth semester students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in analyzing the constituent structures. The subjects were the result of the test that had been given to the sixth semester students in the academic year 2019/2022. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. For gaining the data, the writer used a subjective test about constituent structures and an in-depth interview. All of the data were analized descriptively. The finding showed that the ability of analyzing constituent structures was poor. Based on the result, 10 students (50%) got score 21-40 (poor), 4 students (20%) got score 41-60 (fair), 3 students (15%) got score
61-80 (good) and 3 students (15%) got score 1-20 (very poor). The difficulties that the students faced during the analysis were (1) Inability to identify syntactic relationship, (2) Inability to determine the
syntactic category and (3) Inability to determine the syntactic function.
