This thesis is entitled: An Analysis of Contextual Meaning of Idiomatic Expression in the Joker Movie. The problems of this study are: firstly, what are types of contextual meaning of idiomatic expressions found in joker movie? Secondly, what is dominant type of contextual meaning of idiomatic expressions in joker movie? The aims of this study are: firstly, to identify and to describe the types of contextual meaning of idiomatic expressions found in Joker movie. Secondly, to identify the dominant type of contextual meaning of the idiomatic expression in Joker movie. In conducting this study, the writer used qualitative descriptive method. The data resource of this study was joker movie. The data were collected by using observation and documentation techniques. The writer analyzed the data by describing and identifying techniques. The result shows that there are 6 types of contextual meaning obtained in Joker movie. They are context of person consist of 12 idiomatic expressions, context of place consist of 3 idiomatic expressions, context of time consist of 1 idiomatic expression, context of formality consist of 3 idiomatic expressions, context of mood consist of 8 idiomatic expressions, and context of subject-matter consist of 5 idiomatic expressions. The dominant type of contextual meaning found in Joker movie is context of person with 12 idiomatic expressions.
