A Study On The Problems In Retelling Story Of The Third Semester Students Of English Study Program Of Nusa Cendana University In Academic Year 2022/2023

This research is entitled “A Study on the Problems in Retelling Story of the Third Semester Students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in Academic Year 2022/2023”. This research was conducted to answer the following question: what language problem did the Third Semester Students of English Study Program faced in Story Retelling . The aim of this research is to know if retelling story can improve the students’ problems in speaking. The method used in this research was descriptive method. This method was used because the aims of the study was to describe the Problems in Retelling Story of the Third Semester Students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in Academic Year 2022/2023. The population of this research is some of the third semester students of English department in the academic year 2022/2023. They consist of 10 students. The result of the research shows that the Third Semester Students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in Academic Year 2022/2023 are able to speak English especially in retelling a story with good pronunciation, grammatical structure and vocabulary. The areas of difficulties faced by the third semester students of English department in the academic year 2022/2023in speaking are how to use tenses and how to put words in correct position and how to pronounce the words correctly. Based on the result of the research and the conclusion discuss above, some suggestions can be given. (1) It is suggested that the students have good mastery of English not only in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation but also other aspects areas enable for them to speak English successfully. (2) The lectures and English teachers in general are supported to teach the students effectively so they have good mastery of English not only for speaking but also for other skills. (3) Speaking skill above demands effectively and continues speaking practices to enable the students to communicate their ideas orally using the language they have mastered.
