This thesis is entitled: "The Importance of English for the Tourism Sector in Ngada Regency with the Potential of 17 Riung Island Tourism Objects". The problems of this study are: 1) what are the perceptions of local governments, tourism actors and the community about the importance of English for the tourism sector around 17 Riung Island objects? 2) What are the obstacles experienced by the community when communicating in terms of promoting objects or facilities around the 17 Riung Island tourist attraction? This study aims to: 1) describe how the local government's perception of tourism actors and the community about the importance of English for the tourism sector around the 17 Riung island attractions and 2) identify the obstacles experienced by the community when communicating in terms of promoting objects or facilities around the 17 Riung Island tourist attraction. The method used was qualitative descriptive method. The data resource of this study was seven informants. The research was conducted in Nangamese Village, Riung sub district, Ngada Regency in March 2022. Data collection techniques were observation, interview and documentation techniques. Data analysis techniques were identifying and describing. The result shows the perception of the local government, tourism actors, and the community about the importance of English for tourism sector around the 17 Riung island are firstly, English is very important because it is an international recognized language by the world, so that in the field of tourism its role is very importance. Seconly, English is very important because it is used as a communication tool among countries, or in other words, English is a medium in establishing good relations between people from other countries, especially in the tourism communication process. Thridly, English is very important because it has become a necessity in today's era and has a big impact on tourism development. Forthly, English is very important because people can use capital to make a living by using English. The obstacles experienced by the community when communicating in terms of promoting objects or facilities around 17 Riung Island attractions are firstly, the lack of community knowledge of English that make them difficult in communicating English with foreign tourists in terms of promoting existing tourist objects or facilities. Seconly, the lack of support of programs from the government in the field of tourism in empowering creativity and public knowledge in launching the promotion of existing tourism objects. Thridly, the lack of community participation in developing the existing tourism potential and also the lack of fund in terms of supporting the level of public knowledge related to the tourism process, both knowledge of the community's English language or skills in promoting tourist objects, as well as the lack of adequate facilities around the area tourism attraction. Forthly, low educational background of the community especially the knowledge of English.
