An Analysis On The Ability In Using Present And Past Continuous Tenses Of The Second Grade Students Of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Kota Kupang (Mtsn) In Academic Year 2021/2022

This thesis is entitled “AN ANALYSIS ON THE ABILITY IN USING PRESENT AND PAST CONTINUOUS TENSES OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH NEGERI (MTsN) KOTA KUPANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022” The aims of this research are to find out the ability in using present and past continuous tenses of the second grade students of MTs Negeri Kupang and to find out the problems found by the second grade students of MTs Negeri Kupang in using present continuous and past continuous tenses. The writer used qualitative method to collected the data. The population in this research was the second grade students of MTs Negeri Kota Kupang. The researcher took 3 students from each class with attendance numbers 2, 12, and 22 as the sample. Totally, there were 21 students. The researcher used a test that consisted of two kinds of questions there were multiple choice tests and completion tests with total 35 questions and the test focused on present and past continuous tenses. The result found that the ability of the students is in the low level because the score percentage in answering the questions about the present continuous tense is only 44,17% and past continuous tense is only 36,13%. The researcher also calculated all the data that consisted of two kinds of tenses that were present and past continuous tenses, the score is 39,19% which means that the students ability in using present and past continuous tense is in the low level. Besides, the result of the second research problems that is problems faced by the second grade students of MTs Negeri Kota Kupang in using present and past continuous tenses found that the second grade students of MTs Negeri Kupamg lack of knowledge present participle because there was 20 students made mistakes in present participle with total 21 students. While in past continuous tense, the students lack of knowledge to be (was,were). 21 from 21 sudents made mistakes in answering the question about to be (was,were).
