This thesis is entitled: THE MASTERY OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE CAUSATIVE VERB CONSTRUCTION BY EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP TUNAS GLORIA KOTA KUPANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022. The problems are: Firstly,what is the level of mastery by eight-grade students of SMP Tunas Gloria in the academic year 2021/2022 in mastering English causative verb ?. Secondly, what are problems encountered by the students in mastering English causative verb ?. Thirdly, what are causes of problem faced by eight-grade students of SMP Tunas Gloria in constructing causative verb ?. This study aims to find out the level of mastery of eighth-grade students of SMP Tunas Gloria in mastering English causative verb, to identify problems encountered by the students in mastering English causative verb, to find out the causes of students’ problems in mastering English causative verb. This study used the descriptive quantitative method. This research was conducted in SMP Tunas Gloria Kota Kupang, especially eighth-grade students in the academic year 2021/2022. There were 31 students as the population, and all the students (31 students) were selected as the sample. In collecting the data, the writer used a test. The students were given the multiple choice test and the number of items of the test was 40 items. The writer applied some formulas to analyze the data. The result shows that the Eighth-grade students of SMP Tunas Gloria in the academic year 2021/2022 can master causative verb, because the total of students who got good grades to excellent grades are 24 students, the students got excellent level are 2 with its percentage is 6,45% and the students got good level are 22 students with its percentage is 71% and the mean of their score is 71. The level of students' mastery was 71% and it was categorized as good level. Some problems encountered by eighth-grade students of SMP Tunas Gloria in constructing causative verb are, as follows: students had difficulty in understanding causative patterns, students did not repeat lessons at home which caused them to forget the lesson about causative verb, students did not master vocabulary (it made students got difficulty in finding the meaning and choosing the correct answer), students could not distinguish word classes (adjective, verb, and noun) which caused them difficult to analyze sentences. Causes of problems in constructing causative verb by eighth-grade students of SMP Tunas Gloria are, as follows : Students did not know how to make a sentence using the pattern, Students forgot some forms of causative verb that caused them difficult to choose the correct answer, Students had no interest , motivation, strategy and resource to learn more about causative verb, Students had problems with language due to poor vocabulary and little interest to practice and learn English causative verb
