Empowering EFL Teachersfor Future Classroom Teaching: In Relevance with the Case of EFL Practicing Teachers of East Nusa Tenggara Province
XMLAbstract
This article is to describe issues about how to empower EFL teachers for the future English classroom teaching making use the ideas of Richards in Jacobs (1997) including general teaching skills, language proficiency, subject-matter language, pedagogical reasoning and decision making, and personal theory of teaching. In addition, the present article is to discuss the facts performed by the practicing teachers at school of East Nusa Tenggara Province luckily successfully observed in peer teaching practices during "Pendidikan dan Latihan Profesi Guru" (PLPG) in Kupang that has been running since 2010. The EFL teachers particularly in East Nusa Tenggara Province are expected to hove competence on these issues for successful and satisfied classroom teaching. However, based on the observation none of the teachers showed good competence on each of these issues. This can depict dissatisfied classroom EFL teaching in the future as well as a responsibility of the relevant institutions such as "Pengawas", "Dinas PK", and teachers training faculties of a number of universities in
East Nusa Tenggara Province.
