This thesis is entitled; AN ANALYSIS OF DIFFICULTIES IN READING OF NARRATIVE TEXT OF EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF MTSN KUPANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022. The problems of this study are: (1)To what extent is the comprehension of narrative texts by eighth-grade students of MtsN Kupang, (2) What are the difficulties faced by the eighth -grade students of MtsN Kupang in comprehending narrative text, (3) What factors contribute to the difficulties in comprehending narrative text by eighth-grade students of MtsN Kupang. The purposes of this research are: (1) To identify and describe how eighth-grade students of MtsN Kupang understand narrative reading texts, (2) To identify and describe the difficulties faced by eighth-grade students of MtsN Kupang in comprehending narrative text, (3) To know the factors contributing to the difficulties of eighth-grade students of MtsN Kupang in comprehending narrative text. The several instruments in analyzing the data to be collected. Both quantitative and qualitative data analyses used for the research. Based on the analyzed data, there are many students who still do not get grades according to the standard of success with average value of the test given is 68.26. There are the students get problem to look for the determining main idea, understanding vocabulary, making Inference, and detail Information. Students Also have difficulty in understanding the structure of the text, have limited vocabulary, cannot understand the material, does not understand when finding a long text, and have the problem to visualize the text. The researcher found five factors causing the students difficulties in comprehending english reading text. difficulty understanding long sentences in the text; inadequate teacher instruction; difficulty understanding vocabulary; house environment and school environment.
