THE USE OF STUDENT TEAMS ACHIEVEMENT DIVISION (STAD) TYPES TO IMPROVE SKILLS IN WRITING “APPLICATION LETTER” OF THE TWELFTH GRADE BAHASA STUDENTS OF SMAK ST. CAROLUS PENFUI-KUPANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023
XMLThe aims of this study is to know the difficulties faced by the twelfth grade of Bahasa students, to understand the use of Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) to improve skills in writing “Application Letter,” and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) to improve skill in writing “Application Letter” of twelfth grade Bahasa students of SMAK St. Carolus Penfui-Kupang 2022/2023. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The result from the first test showed that there were two of the students who got score 88, and the second test was only one of the students passed the test with the average of Minimum Passing Grade (80). The finding reveals that; (1) the difficulties that were faced by the twelfth grade Bahasa students to improve skill in writing application letter are on 2 aspects, like content aspect and organization aspect; (2) the uses of STAD to improve skill in writing application letter helped the students especially in a class presentation, teamwork, quiz, individual score progress, and team recognition; (3) there were some strengths of using STAD, but at the same time there were some weaknesses that must be fixed in implementing the learning method. It suggested for teacher to try this learning method in various topic, so the students enjoy the English lesson.
