The Effectiveness Of Using Diary Writing To Enrich Students’ English Vocabulary

This study entitles The Effectiveness of Using Diary Writing to Enrich Students’ English Vocabulary. The study has been conducted for four months to answer two research questions; (1) Does the implementation of diary writing helps improving students’ English vocabulary and (2) What are the students’ attitudes toward the implementation of diary writing in improving their English vocabulary. The aims are to know the effect of the implementation of diary writing in improving students’ English vocabulary and students’ attitudes toward diary writing implementation for their vocabulary learning. The method used in this study was a pre-experimental study with one-group pretest-posttest design. Students were subjected to two months treatment of regularly writing their diaries. There were 30 students from semester five of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University taken as the subject of this study who have endured the treatment. The instruments used for data collection were a vocabulary test and questionnaire. The result of data analysis shows that students were demonstrating good vocabulary knowledge with the result of the sig. (2-tailed) = 0.00 (p<0.05) meaning that there was a significant change in the mean score of students’ pretest and posttest. The result of the questionnaire also indicated that most of the students demonstrated positive attitudes on the implementation of diary writing for their vocabulary learning.
