Collocation Errors Indonesian Narrative Text English Study Program The Faculty Of Teacher Training And Education University Of Nusa Cendana Errors On The English Translation Of Narrative Text By Seventh Semester Students Study Program In Nusa Cendana University In Academic Year 2021/2022
XMLThe title of this research is “Collocation Errors on the English Translation of Indonesian Narrative Text by Seventh Semester Students of English Study Program in Nusa Cendana University in Academic Year 2021/2022”. The purposes of this research are to describe collocation errors made by the seventh semester students in their translation of narrative text from Indonesian into English, and to find the causes of the collocation errors made by the seventh semester students in their translation of narrative text. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this research were 30 students from seventh semester in academic year 2021/2022. This research used document analysis and questionnaire to collect the data and to answer the research questions. From the seventh semester students’ translation of narrative text, the researcher found that there were seven types of collocation error, either grammatically or lexically, made by the seventh semester students. The errors were G1 (noun + preposition), G4 (preposition + noun), G8 (Nineteen English verb pattern (pattern D verb + prepositon)), L1 (Verb usually transitive + noun/pronoun or prepositional phrase), L3 (adjective + noun), L4 (noun + verb), L5 (noun1 + noun2). The researcher also found three causes of errors made by the seventh semester students namely carelessness, first language interference and translation. From the result of this research, the researcher suggested that the seventh semester students should improve their collocation knowledge, both grammatical and lexical, and should improve their habits in learning new vocabularies in any resources also should have motivation in learning English collocation. They must realize the importance of learning collocation, keep practicing and find out the right strategies in learning collocation, also be active in the process of learning English.
