Using Games To Teach Speaking Skill Of The Tenth Graders Of Ips 5 Of Sman 4 Kota Kupang In The Academic Year 2022/2023

This study is entitled: Using Games to Teach Speaking Skill of the Tenth Graders of SMAN 4 Kota Kupang in the Academic Year 2022/2023. The purpose of this research was to find out students’ speaking skill in using games media, namely: hot seat and hot ball for the tenth graders and also to find out the weaknesses of using games in learning English speaking skill for students’. The method used in this research is qualitative research. This qualitative research, through: Observation and Interview. In this research there are three stages carried out. There first stage is the pre-test. The purpose of the pre-test is to find out the students’ speaking skill. The second stage is the post-test. The purpose of the post-test is to increase students’ speaking skill in working on question from the pre-test. As for the research instrument is a multiple choice test
consists of 20 numbers. In the technique of analyzing data, the writer used qualitative data. Analyzing the data shows to find out students’ abilities in doing the test between the pre-test and post-test. To find out the increase in students’ speaking skill can be seen from the results of the pre-test and post-test. The average students’ pre-test score was 55.16. In the pre-test there were only four students’ who passed out of 30 students’ and few students get score of 75. While the average students post-test score was 84.66. Based on the data above, it shows that there is an increase in students’ speaking skill from the post-test, because students’ are more active and participate in the learning process, it can be seen from the increased scores of students’ in the teaching and learning process with the help of media games, namely: hot seat and hot ball. By using games students’ feel active in class so students don’t feel bored during the teaching and learning process. The writer suggestion that games can be used by English teachers to attract students’ attention during the teaching and learning process.
