An Analysis Of Translation Strategies Used By The Eighth Semester Students Of English Study Program 2021-2022 Academic Year In Translating English Idioms Into Indonesian

This study aims to find out the translation strategies used by the eighth semester students of English study program 2021-2022 academic year in translating English idioms into Indonesian and to find out the frequency of each translation strategy used by the eighth semester students of English study program 2021-2022 academic year in translating English idioms into Indonesian. The research method that was used in this research was qualitative research method. The sample of this research was 18 students from the eighth semester of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University 2021-2022 academic year. Techniques that were used to collect the data were written test and follow-up interview. The data obtained from the result of the test and the follow-up interview were analyzed to know the strategies used by the students in translating English idioms from English into Indonesian and the frequency of each strategy. The translation strategies were analyzed by using the four strategies in translating Idiom by Mona Baker. Students who participated in the interview were the students who translated the translation test. The result of the interview was used to support the analysis result in answering the research questions. The findings revealed that: There were 161 (68.81%) data that were translated by the strategy translating idiom using an idiom of similar meaning and form, there were 10 (4.27%) data that were translated by the strategy translating an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, 63 (26.92 %) data were translated by paraphrase strategy, and 0 (0%) data were translated using translating idioms by omission.
