Teachers use effective teaching strategies to get students active in class when learning to read. This study aims to analyzed the teacher’s strategy in teaching reading and also to see how students respond to the strategies used by the teacher when teaching reading, in seventh grade at SMPK Adisucipto Penfui, in Academic Year 2022/2023. This research approach is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is an English teacher who teaches a class, as well as seventh grade students. Data was collected from observations, interviews, and documentation. In this study, researchers found that in teaching reading, teacher used scientific learning that contained, reciprocal teaching, QAR, and Scaffolding strategies. The students’ response to the strategy was positive. They were enthusiastic, excited and active in participating in learning English reading.
