The Ability Of Seventh-Grade Students Of SMP N 2 Lewa, East Sumba Regency In The Academic Year 2021/2022 In Comprehending Narrative Text

The problems of this study are: (1) to what extend are seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lewa, East Sumba regency in academic year 2021/2022 able to comprehend narrative text? (2) What is the level ability of students in comprehending narrative text? (3) What are problems encountered by students in comprehending narrative text? The aims of this study are: (1) to know whether seventh-grade of SMP Negeri 2 Lewa, East Sumba regency are able to comprehend narrative text. (2) To find out the ability level of students in comprehending narrative text. (3) To identify the problems encountered by students in comprehending narrative text. The method used was quantitative descriptive method. The population of this study was 50 students of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lewa, East Sumba regency and sample of this study
was 50 students of seventh-grade of SMP Negeri 2 Lewa, East Sumba regency in academic year 2021/2022. The instrument used was multiple choice test with 30 test items. The data were analyzed by using some formulas. The result shows that the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 LEWA, East Sumba regency in the academic year 2021/2022 are able to comprehend narrative text because based on the result of research their level of ability was classified as the good level with the percentage is 70%. There are some problems faced by students: (a) some students
did not understand what they have read because they did not get English lessons in Elementary School. (b) Students received less support from their parents and teachers to learn English, especially in understanding narrative text so that students cannot distinguish the types of text. (c) Students are poor of vocabulary and grammar especially in understanding narrative text.
