The title of this research is A Correlation Between Reading English Short Stories and Vocabulary Mastery of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Negeri 8 Kota Kupang In the Academic Year of 2022/2023. The problem of this study is the students’ difficulties in mastering English words.The purposes of this research are to find out whether or not reading English short story is correlated with student’s mastery of vocabulary. This research used quantitative method. The subject of this research were 20 tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 8 Kota Kupang. This research used test as instrument to collect the data and to answer the research questions.The writer used vocabulary test that consisted of 40 items. The writer used multiple-choice, complete sentences and matching words. The questions were related to whether reading English short story is correlated with students’ vocabulary knowledge. The instrument that used to collect the data was pre-test and pos-test. The result of this research shows that the value of r was 0,701, and based on the r table there was a positive correlation that is 0,701 (strong) between reading short stories and students’ vocabulary mastery and it proved that there was a strong correlation between reading English short stories and students’ vocabulary mastery. This calculation shows that the value of r (test) was higher than the r table value (the correlation table). Therefore, there was significant difference and strong correlation between X (pre-test) and Y (post-test). In this case, reading English short stories during the teaching and learning process correlate with vocabulary mastery and it can help in the mastery of vocabulary by the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 8 Kupang in the academic year of 2022/2023.
