The Implementation Of Extensive Reading To Improve Student’s Ability In Reading Skill At Usapimnasi Senior High School

The research aims to identify the factors that affect reading ability and describe how to apply extensive reading to improve students’ reading skills. The research used the theory of reading to support this research. The research applied extensive reading methods to improve student’s reading skills in teaching and learning. In this research, the writer conducts the data using classroom action research done in two cycles. The writer collected the data using tests (pretest and post-test). In this research, the data in cycle I showed through descriptive quantitative calculation, the student’s mean score was 63.9 the minimum score was 40, and the maximum one was 70. It means that the student’s reading skill was still low. The writer could prove it to cycle II. Meanwhile, the result in cycle II showed that the mean score was 87.65. There were 22 students who got the score above the minimum mastery criterion and 4 students scored below the Cut Score. It means that the learning was successfully appropriated with the percentage obtained of 92% as the indicator. It indicates that the reading instruction was successful.
