Error Analysis Of Essays Written By The Third-Semester Students Of The English Department Of Nusa Cendana University

The title of this research is “Error Analysis of Essays Written by the Third Semester Students of the English Department of Nusa Cendana University”. The purposes of this research are to describe errors and find the possible causes of the errors made by the third semester students
in the essays written. This research used the qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this research were 20 students of third semester in academic year 2021/2022. This research used document analysis, interview, and documentation to collect the data and answer the research questions. The researcher used five main steps: (1) data collection (2) data identification (3) data description (4) data explanation (5) data evaluation. It was found that there were four types of errors made by the third semester students. The errors were omission, addition, misformation and misordering. The researcher also found three causes of errors made by the third semester students namely carelessness, first language interference, and language creativity. Based on the result of this research, the writer suggests that third semester students be more enthusiastic in learning grammar and tenses, so that, when writing English essays, they do not experience problems.
