This classroom action research is entitled: USING ACTIVE READING TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 10 KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEARS 2022/2023. The location research was in SMPN 10 Kupang. The subjects were to improve the grade VIII students of SMPN I0 Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023. The indicators of success was used were the indicator of success in the process and the indicator of success in result. The procedures of research were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The techniques of data collection were observation and test. The data were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The result of research shows that using Active Reading increased English vocabulary of the grade VIII students of SMPN 10 Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023. This classroom action research achieved success in process and in results. The success in process was indicated by the active participation of
students during the action stage, while the success in result was indicated by the students' scores of test which achieved the standard criterion of SMPN 10 Kupang (60). Therefore, the teachers of English should maximize the use of to increase students' English vocabulary.
