This thesis is entitled: THE USE OF ROLE PLAY TECHNIQUE IN IMPROVINGVOCABULARY SEVENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN NILOPO IN THE
ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024. The problem of this research is to what the extent can the role play technique improve the vocabulary of seventh-grade students of SMPN Nilopo in the academic year 2023/2024? This study aims to find out to what extent role play technique can improve the vocabulary of seventh-grade students of SMPNNilopo in the academic year 2023/2024. The research was conducted in SMPN Nilopo,especially seventh-grade students in the academic year 2023/2024 in March 2023. The type ofresearch is Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were 102 students in the population, and 26 students were selected as the sample (25% of the population). This study used a quantitativemethod and consists of two cycles. In collecting the data, the students were given the multiple choices test and the number of items on the test was 40 items. The writer applied some formulasto analyze the data. The result shows that the role-play technique can improve the vocabulary of seventh-grade students of SMPN Nilopo in academic year 2023/2024. It can be seen from the result of students’ scores in the pre-test and post-test in cycle one, the student’s vocabulary level in the pre-test was below average which is55 or 19%, there were only 5 students who got successful scores criteria. In the post-test, the students’ vocabulary level were increased that is 67 or 38%, there were 10 students who got successful criteria. or it was only 38%, there were 16 students who got unsuccessful criteria. Incycle 2 students’ vocabulary levels in the
post-test increased significantly that is 80 or 85%,most of the students, that is 22 students got successful criteria. It can be concluded that the role-play technique can improve the vocabulary of seventh-grade of SMPN Nilopo in academic year 2023/2024.
