THE LANGUAGE STYLE USED BY ANARKI ATAPUKAN AS A MASTER OF CEREMONY AT WEDDING PARTY IN ADONARA

Language style is the way people used language to communicate and it can be written or oral language. The language style can be changed based on social context. Social context encompasses addressee, addresser, topic, time, and place. People do not always speak consistently the same way. People shift the way they speak constantly as they move from one situation to another. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The objectives of this research are (1) To find out the types of language styles by Anarki Atapukan in his performance as a master of ceremony at the wedding party (2) To know about the ways of using language style by Anarki Atapukan in his performance as a master of ceremony at the wedding party. The scope of this research is a study of language variation, especially in language style found in anarki Atapukan perfomances. This research was taken from anarki atapukan performances at wedding parties. From his performances, the researcher found 80 utterances containing language styles. The utterances were classified and analyzed by using Martin Joos’ theory about language style. The finding of this research is there are five language styles used in anarki Atapukan performances namely frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate style. The most common type of language used is formal style in which there are 36,63% utterances. Finally, based on the finding of, the researcher gave some suggestion. The reseacher hopes this research will be useful for improving student's knowledge about language style in sociolinguistics.
