technique in taking the subjects of this research. Therefore, the researcher has purposively selected five children as the subjects of this research. These children have been selected based on their characteristics and their using of English as the result of language acquisition. The five subjects of this research consisted of 1 male and 4 females whose ages are between 2 to 14 years old. The researcher has used the interview to gain the data needed by using a list of interview questions as the guidance. The data has been analyzed based on the hypotheses by Krashen (1982). From the five hypotheses, there have been two matched with the subjects’ characteristics and so they have been used by the researcher in analyzing the data, they are: the Input hypothesis and the Affective Filter hypothesis. Based on the data analysis, there are four key factors from different sight of perceptions; which are, the children’s perceptions: 1. input from hobbies and input from the environments, 2. affective level, 3. output from daily conversations in the subjects’ environments and hobbies. From parents' perspectives, a significant aspect has been identified and analyzed based on family background. To understand how children acquire English as a second language (L2), we need to focus on the aforementioned key factors. The first step involves creating an environment that offers children opportunities to hear and use the language effectively. Once this environment is in place, children can start receiving language input through everyday activities, conversations with family members, and their family background also plays a significant role. Next, we should consider the children's attitude toward this input, as a positive attitude can lead to increased exposure and improved language development. When children have a favorable attitude, they may receive more input through natural conversations and hobbies, which can be a crucial step toward language output. Based on the findings in this study, these are the ways of children in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara Province, have acquired English as their second language.
