Looking Into Jargons Found In One Piece The Movie (A Sociolinguistic Approach)

This thesis explores the complex world of linguistic jargon, concentrating on how it appears in the anime series "One Piece." Based on sociolinguistic principles, the study examines the various uses and forms of jargon, from common language to specialized language components like acronyms, abbreviations, and unique word formations. A descriptive qualitative methodology is used in the research with note-taking, documentary analysis, and observational techniques. The main focus of the study is the anime series "One Piece," with a specific focus
on the technical terms used by the characters and narrators. The analysis findings demonstrate a thorough identification and categorization of jargon, categorizing it into several types such as Individual or Group Jargon, Devil Fruit Jargon, Attack Jargon, Weapon or Item Jargon, and those that remain uncategorized with total of 70 jargons found in the movie. Each group is further divided depending on the types of jargon mentioned in Chapter II. The meanings of these jargons are thoroughly examined, taking into account both contextual and conceptual elements. The study draws upon existing theories, notably Allan & Burridge and Brown & Attardo, to understand the functional aspects of jargon in "One Piece." In the study's conclusion, the researcher offers detailed insights into the diverse realm of linguistic jargon within "One Piece." Furthermore, further study options are suggested in order to broaden the understanding of jargon in anime and its broader linguistic consequences.
