This thesis is entitled “An Error Analysis Based on Narrative Texts Written by Second-Grade Students of SMA Nurul Falah Kefamenanu in Academic Year 2020/2021”. English is one of the foreign languages that has been taught in Indonesia. It is studied at school for many levels, since elementary school until college level. Due to the fact, English plays an important role in connecting all the people from different countries as an international language. Therefore, it is obligatory for students to understand how words are strung together to form a good sentence according to the pattern and rules in English. The main objectives of this study were; 1) to analyze the contents of the narrative text done by second-grade students of SMA Nurul Falah Kefamenanu. 2) to be able to analyze the writing organizations (the generic structure) of the narrative text committed by second-grade students of SMA Nurul Falah Kefamenanu. 3) to find the errors, classify the errors, and find the most dominant errors committed by second-grade students of SMA Nurul Falah Kefamenanu. 4) to find out which class is better in writing narrative text and to minimize the errors. This research used descriptive qualitative method and conducted in the month of January 2021. The participants in this study were the second-grade students of SMA Nurul Falah Kefamenanu. The interviews and writings based on author’s (instructions) namely the documents written by the students were used to collect the data. The data were analysed and described qualitatively. The findings shows that 1) There are 56 examples of the errors that committed by the students. The students’ writings were used as the gathering media of errors that happened on surface strategy taxonomy level namely omission, addition, misformation and misordering 2) the scope of errors found within the surface strategy taxonomy level on the student’s writings ranges from the grammatical aspects such as the wrong use of inflections, verb confusion, spelling errors, wrong construction and due to lack of knowledge and limited vocabulary of English that they possessed. There are two ways which can be used by students and teachers in order to minimize the errors such as performing extensive reading and giving teachers’ feedback.
