Efforts Of Local Government To Facilitate English Learning To Support Tourism Sector In Alor Regency

This thesis is entitled: ‘Efforts of Local Government to Facilitate English Learning to Support Tourism Sector in Alor Regency’. The problems of this study are: 1) What efforts have been done by the local government to facilitate the community in learning English to support tourism resorts in Alor regenncy? 2) Are there any difficulties encountered by the local government in overcome problems in facilitating English learning
to support tourism resorts in Alor regency? 3) How does the local government overcome the problems in learning English by the local communities to support tourism resorts in Alor regency? The method used was descriptive qualitative method. The data resource of this study was seven informants. The research was conducted in Takpala Village, Alor Tengah Utara sub district, Alor Regency in March - April 2023. The result shows that: Firstly, there are some efforts have been done by the government in facilitating learning English to support the tourism sector in Alor Regency, such as: organized free English lessons for three months with the help of Telecomunications and Information Acceleration
Agency (BAKTI KOMINFO), conducted English language training related to the use of English materials, utilized the skills of local English teachers as local tour guides who can help the local community, conducted training for tour guides so they can contribute to every tourism activity in the local location. Secondly, some dificulties faced by the government in facilitating English learning to support the tourism sector in Alor district,
such as: lack of parental support for children who want to take part in learning English, lack of application of the results of training on travel ethics at each tourist location by tour guides to what has been received during the training, ack of cooperation from English teachers who live in tourist sites, the lack of role of miss tourism is now being replaced by Nyong and Nona Alor due to busyness and lack of funding from the government. Thirdly, some solutions made by the government to overcome any difficulties encountered in facilitating English learning to support the tourism sector in Alor district such as: conduct ongoing training for all communities living around tourist sites as local tourism managers and also as a method of increasing human resources, convey appeals related to good travel ethics to tour guides which will then become the second hand of the government to be implemented at tourist sites, and optimizing the position of Nyong and Nona Alor who
used to play a main role in terms of developing tourism potential in Alor Regency.
