Short Story Videos In Teaching Listening To The Fifth Grade Elementary Students Of Tunas Van Den Broeck Course Of GMIT Kota Kupang

The aims of this study are (1) to know the effectiveness of short story videos in teaching listening to the fifth grade elementary students of Tunas Van Den Broeck course of GMIT Kota Kupang; (2) to know the difficulties of short story videos in teaching listening to the fifth grade elementary students of Tunas Van Den Broeck course of GMIT Kota Kupang. The researcher took only one class, the fifth grade elementary students with 17 students. The method used was classroom action research. This study was conducted by using Kemmis and McTaggart action research procedure (planning, acting, observing and reflecting). The study carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of three and two meetings. In this research the data were gained by using qualitative and quantitative technique. The result in this study indicated that there was improvement of students’ listening skill. Most of the students gained good score at the end of the cycle. To know the improvement of students’ skill by using short story videos, it can be seen from the result of pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2. The mean score of pre-test was 49.82. In pre-test there were only 3 from 17 students who passed the test and got score up to 75 with a percentage of (17.65%). The mean score of post-test 1 in cycle 1 was 61.35 and 7 students got score up to 75 with a percentage of (41.1%) and the mean score of post-test 2 in cycle 2 was 80.58 and there were 16 students passed, got score up to 75 with a percentage of (94.1%). In conclusion using short story videos in teaching is affective, it can improve students’ listening skill and there was no difficulties emerge.
