This thesis is entitled: 'A Study on Grammatical Errors in Writing English Recount Texts by Second Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Tasifeto Timur Belu Regency in Academic Year 2022/2023'. The problems of this study are: (1) What are types of grammatical errors in writing recount texts by second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu regency in the academic year 2022/2023? (2) What are the causes of the
grammatical errors in writing recount texts by second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu regency in the academic year 2022/2023?. This study aims: (1) To identify and describe grammatical errors in writing English recount texts by second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu regency in academic year 2022/2023. (2) To identify and describe the causes of grammatical errors by second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu regency in writing English recount texts. The method used was descriptive qualitative method. The research was conducted at SMAN 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu regency. The total of population is 113 students. The sample of this research was 23 students in class XI Science 1 of SMAN 2 Tasifeto Timur, and the data resource of this study was students worksheets. Techniques of data collection were test, interview and observation. The data were analyzed using several techniques, such as identifying, classifying, and describing. The result shows that, there are four types of grammatical errors in writing English recount texts by second grade students of SMAN 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu Regency in academic year 2022/2023, as follows: misformation errors, omission errors, addition errors, and misordering errors. The errors that are often made are misformation errors: 93 or 44% of the total number of students' writing errors, omission errors: 55 or 26%, followed by addition errors: 41 or 19% and the least is misordering errors at 24 or 11%. There are causes of grammatical errors in writing English recount texts by second garde students of SMAN 2 Tasifeto Timur, Belu Regency in academic year 2022/2023, namely interlingual factors, namely the influence of their first language, intralingual, namely a lack of complete understanding of English and the learning context.
