Semiotic Analysis Of Luhungandi: A Traditional Marriage Practiced In Lairuru Village, Umalulu District, East Sumba Regency
XMLThe Luhungandi traditional marriage (elopement) that occurs in East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara is a tradition carried out by men and women because the couple who elopes do not notify the woman's parents about the marriage. The aims of this research is to find out the physical symbols will be used in Luhungandi and to describe the semiotic meanings of those symbols in marriage tradition practiced in Lairuru Village, Umalulu District, East Sumba Regency. as well as knowing each symbol involved in Luhungandi in East Sumba. The method used in this research is empirical research with a qualitative approach. Data collection methods and techniques were carried out by observation, interviews and taking pictures and then analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the research show that the Luhungandi wedding tradition is still carried out in Umalulu District, East Sumba Regency. The Luhungandi traditional marriage, which is a form of inequality, has several consequences for the perpetrator and the parents of both parties which are resolved using existing customs in society therefore that a good middle ground can be found between the two parties carrying out Luhungandi.
