USING PARTNER READING STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF CLASS VIII A STUDENTS OF SMPN 5 KUPANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024

The research is entitled: “Using Partner Reading Strategies to Improve Reading Comprehension of Class VIII A Students of SMPN 5 Kupang in the Academic Year 2023/2024”. The research aims at finding out can using Partner Reading Strategy improve students’ reading comprehension of class VIII A of SMPN 5 Kupang. The research used the theory of reading to support this research. In the teaching process, the writer applied partner reading strategies to improve students' reading comprehension. In this research, the writer conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was done in two cycles. The subjects of this research were 32 students of class VIII A SMPN 5 Kupang. In collecting the data, the writer used tests (pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II) and observation. In this research, the data in cycle 1 show that all students had lower scores under 70, where the average score from the pre-test was 50.68 and the average value of post-test I ware 69.63, it was improved reading comprehension from the pretest results but were still below the standard minimum completeness criteria (KKM), and the results students who have successfully applied the partner reading strategies was 75% of students completed in reading comprehension with the highest average in
post-test II was 82.68, it’s means that there was an improvement in reading comprehension. Based on these results, it can be concluded that using the partner reading strategy can improve students' reading comprehension.
