A SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF HOMONYMS OF THE AMANUBAN DIALECT OF THE DAWAN LANGUAGE

This writing deals with analyzing homonyms of the Amanuban dialect of the Dawan language. The problems in this study are: firstly, what are the types of homonyms of the Amanuban dialect of the Dawan language? Secondly, what are the meanings of homonyms of the Amanuban dialect of the Dawan language? The purpose of this study is to analyze the types and to describe the meanings of homonyms of the Amanuban dialect of the Dawan language. This study used a qualitative method with three techniques to collect the data by doing elicitation, interview, and note-taking. In analyzing the result of the data, the researcher used the theory from Saeed (2009) to analyze the types and meanings of homonyms of the Amanuban Dialect of the Dawan language. The data found that there is one type of homonym of the Amanuban dialect of the Dawan language, which is the same spelling category. From this type, 10 homonyms are belonging to this type, namely: mupen, kleni, nahan, neno, fon, mes, skuku, klofo, loim, and fe. The meanings of the homonyms found in the Amanuban dialect of the Dawan language: mupen (get/gaze), kleni (ring/curly), nahan (cooking/sound), neno (day/sky), fon (scrub/smell), mes (alone/later), skuku (dust/destroy), klofo (mud/diarrhea), loim (like/want) and fe (open/wife). Each of these words has two meanings which are referred to as homonyms.
