This thesis is entitled: ‘THE USE OF BOARD GAME TECHNIQUE TO INCREASE ENGLISH VOCABULARY MASTERY OF SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 12 KUPANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024.’ The problem of the research is to what extent can the use of board game technique increase vocabulary mastery of the second grade students of SMPN 12 Kupang in the year of 2023/2024? The aim of this research is to find out how
far board game technique increases English vocabulary mastery of second grade students of SMPN 12 Kupang in the academic year of 2023/2024. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research subjects were second grade students of SMPN 12 Kupang, consists of 26 students. This study used quantitative method. In collecting data, the students were given multiple choice test and the number of items was 40 items. The research was conducted in two cycles which included planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result shows that there was an increases of students vocabulary using board game in two cycles. In the pretest and posttest showed the significance increases too. It can be seen from the result of students’ scores in the pre test and post test in cycle one that the students’ vocabulary level in the pretest was below, the average that is 54 or 8%. There were only 5 students who met the criteria for successful scores. In the posttest, the
students’ vocabulary level increased to 69 or 31%. There were 8 students who met the criteria. In cycle 2, students’ vocabulary levels in the posttest increased significantly, that is 82 or 84%. Most of 22 students met the success criteria. It can be concluded that the use of board game technique can increase secons grade students' of SMPN 12 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024.
