This study aims to analyze the strategies and the most common strategies used by the eight-semester students of the geography study program at Nusa Cendana University in translating abstracts (Indonesian-English). This study used the descriptivequalitative method. The data was taken from 14 students in the geography study program at Nusa Cendana University who graduated in the eight semester in academic year 2022/2023. The researcher analyzed the data by identifying, classifying, and describing The finding showed that there were 244 data of strategies used by the students in translating abstracts. The identified strategies were classified based on Mona Baker's (1992: 26-42) theory. There were seven types of strategies in translation applied by the eight semester students in translating abstracts. They were translation strategies by a more general word, translation by a more neutral/less expressive word, translation by cultural substitution, translation by using loan word or loan word plus explanation, translation by paraphrase using a related word, translation paraphrase using unrelated word, and translation by omission. The highest frequency of the strategies used by the students was using a loan word or loan word plus explanation (47.13%), followed up with translation strategies by a more general word (33.61%), translation by paraphrase using related word (4.92%), paraphrase using unrelated word (4.51%), translation by cultural substitution (3.69%), translation strategies by omission (3.69%), translation strategies by a more neutral/less expressive word (2.45%), and the lowest was translation strategies by illustrate (0%).
